Obverse description Draped bust of Pope Sixtus V facing left, wearing the zucchetto (papal skullcap) and an ornate mantum richly embroidered with decorative motifs; the papal coat of arms appears on the cope clasp. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail characteristic of late Renaissance papal coinage. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the date 1588 appearing in the lower field. The surrounding legend in Latin records the pope's name and full title in abbreviated form.
