| Obverse description | Central field bears the emblems of the Apostolic Camera: the papal umbrella (umbraculum) surmounting the crossed keys of Saint Peter, tied with a cord, above the shield of Camerlengo Paluzzo Paluzzi Altieri degli Albertoni, charged with six stars arranged in two rows. The composition is rendered in a bold baroque style characteristic of the late seventeenth-century Roman mint. A continuous Latin legend encircles the entire design within a rope-pattern border, reading SEDE · VACANTE · MDCLXXVI, denoting the vacancy of the Holy See in 1676. |
