| Reversbeschreibung | A finely detailed bird's-eye perspective view of the newly reconstructed Port of Anzio (Porto d'Anzio), commissioned by Innocent XII, occupying the lower two-thirds of the field. The harbor scene depicts the mole, colonnaded structures, and several vessels including galleys with sails and smaller craft riding animated waves rendered with meticulous engraving. Above the port, a dramatic cloudscape fills the upper field. In the exergue, the papal tiara and keys emblem flanked by the Roman date MDCIC (1699) appear within a cartouche. The circumferential legend VENTI·MARE·OBEDIVNT·EI· (the winds and the sea obey Him) arcs along the upper border, referencing the Gospel of Matthew and celebrating the papal patronage of the harbor works. |
