The fronds radiate outward at the top, creating an elegant heraldic frame around the text. The composition is entirely typographic, with no figurative imagery, conveying the commemorative message of divine victory with austere Baroque dignity. The whole is enclosed within a milled border consistent with the obverse. |

Innocent XI issued this piastra to commemorate the relief of Vienna in September 1683, when a combined Christian force under John III Sobieski of Poland broke the Ottoman siege that had lasted nearly two months. The Pope had been the primary financial and diplomatic architect of the Holy League responsible for that coalition, personally pressuring reluctant Catholic monarchs into the alliance and reportedly contributing substantial papal funds to the campaign. The inscription — drawn from Exodus — frames the Ottoman rout as an act of divine judgment, a deliberate political statement as much as a devotional one.
The absence of a date on the obverse is characteristic of this type across the Munt#26-27 variants.
