Obverse description The obverse displays the papal coat of arms of Clement X (Emilio Altieri) at center: a shield charged with six eight-pointed stars in two rows, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys of Saint Peter, all within an elaborate baroque cartouche formed by laurel and oak branches. The surrounding legend reads CLEMENS X PONT MAX, separated by small stars, running clockwise along the inner border of a finely beaded outer rim. The engraving, attributed to Giovanni Hamerani, is executed in high relief in the Baroque style characteristic of the Roman mint under Clement X.
