Additional information

George I was already King of Great Britain when these pfennigs were struck — he had inherited the British throne in 1714 but never relinquished his German territories, ruling Hannover as Elector until his death in 1727. He spent most of his final years back on the continent and died at Osnabrück in June 1727, en route to Hannover. The slight weight variation documented across this short three-year run likely reflects the chronic copper supply inconsistencies that plagued smaller German mints throughout the 1720s.
