Francis George of Schönborn-Wolfsthal served as the last of the powerful Schönborn family to hold a major ecclesiastical electorate, ruling Trier from 1729 until his death in 1756. The Schönborns had accumulated an extraordinary concentration of church offices across the Holy Roman Empire through the first half of the 18th century — at one point family members simultaneously held the sees of Mainz, Trier, Würzburg, Bamberg, Worms, and Speyer. This small copper issue dates to the period when that grip was already loosening.
