Obverse description Central field displays the crowned and ornate armorial shield of Mecklenburg, featuring the characteristic bull's head device of the duchy, rendered in the bold, slightly irregular style typical of early seventeenth-century hammered coinage. The shield is surrounded by elaborate decorative mantling or foliate ornament filling the field. A partial Latin legend, reading A:F:H:Z:MECKL:, referencing Duke Adolphus Frederick (Adolf Friedrich Herzog zu Mecklenburg), runs around the periphery, though much of it is crowded by the central device on this small flan.
