Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort was a County of the Holy Roman Empire whose coining rights — along with its political existence — were extinguished just two years after this piece was struck. The Confederation of the Rhine reorganized the German southwest in 1806, mediatizing dozens of petty sovereignties including Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rochefort, stripping the ruling family of sovereign status and absorbing their territories into larger states. This 1804 issue is among the last coins the house ever produced.
