German prisoner of war camp money occupies a narrow and poorly documented corner of notaphily, and Würzburg's II. Bayerisches Armeekorps issues are among the smallest denomination pieces in the category. Camp scrip of this type was introduced to prevent PoWs from accumulating Reichsmark currency — a concern that became policy across the German military camp system during the First World War. The scrip was valid only within the camp's controlled economy and worthless outside it.
At 21.2 x 17.0 mm, this is genuinely tiny — smaller than a standard postage stamp — which contributes to the survival problem. Attrition rates for these low-denomination pieces are extreme.
