| 表面の説明 | Central field dominated by a shield bearing the arms of Reval (Tallinn), depicted in crude hammered style typical of small medieval billon coinage. The shield is set within a plain inner circle, with the surrounding legend distributed around the periphery of the irregularly shaped flan. The die work is simple and bold, consistent with the modest denomination and provincial mint output of the early sixteenth century. |

Wolter von Plettenberg was the most militarily successful Master the Livonian Order ever produced, having halted the Muscovite advance at the Battle of Smolina in 1502. By the time these pfennigs were struck, he was in his eighties and had recently accepted the title of Prince of the Holy Roman Empire — an unprecedented elevation for a Livonian Master. The Order was already fracturing under Reformation pressure, and Plettenberg himself tolerated Lutheranism within Livonia rather than suppress it.
He died in 1535, just after this issue concluded.
