Obverse description Central field bears the heraldic shield of the Livonian Order, featuring a cross motif, set within a beaded or dotted border on an irregularly shaped flan typical of hammered coinage. The shield is rendered in a somewhat crude but characteristic medieval style, with the surrounding legend divided by the shield's form. Abbreviated initials in uncial Latin characters appear in the field around the shield, identifying the Grand Master Wolter von Plettenberg.
