| Beschrijving voorzijde | Uniface hammered pfennig displaying four heraldic shields arranged in a rhombus-shaped frame, with the arms of the city of Salzburg positioned at the top, flanked by the initials W and T (for Wolf Dietrich) in the field. Three additional shields of the Archbishop occupy the lower portion of the composition. The last three digits of the date appear below the shield arrangement, within the rhombus border. The overall design is characteristic of the small hammered bracteate-influenced pfennigs produced for the Archbishopric of Salzburg in the early seventeenth century. |

Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau, Archbishop of Salzburg from 1587, was deposed in 1612 after a disastrous military conflict with Bavaria over control of the salt trade routes through Hallein — a confrontation he catastrophically misjudged. These pfennigs were struck in the final years of his reign, just before Bavarian forces occupied Salzburg and imprisoned him in Hohensalzburg Fortress, where he died in 1617. The silver content, negligible by weight, reflects the billon-adjacent small denomination coinage typical of prince-archbishopric issues funding an increasingly desperate administration.
