Additional information

Hannover's currency in this period remained administratively separate from the broader German monetary reforms being negotiated elsewhere, a consequence of the kingdom's personal union with Britain under William IV. That constitutional arrangement — one king, two entirely distinct monetary systems — ended abruptly in 1837 when Salic law barred Victoria from the Hanoverian throne, severing the union and leaving the kingdom to chart its own numismatic course under Ernest Augustus.
