Obverse description The field displays the two-line inscription NEU-GUINEA / COMPAGNIE in bold raised Latin lettering, dominating the upper and central portions of the coin. Below the inscription, a crossed pair of palm fronds is rendered in fine relief, their arching branches meeting at the base in a decorative flourish evocative of the tropical colonial territory. The entire design is contained within a rope-pattern border that runs along the inner edge of the coin, lending the obverse a distinctive ornamental character.
