| Reverse description | A large Gothic capital letter 'M' — the initial of the Virgin Mary (Maria), patron of Augsburg Cathedral — struck centrally within a raised inner circle, the whole occupying the flat, unadorned field of the coin. The letter is rendered in a bold, upright Gothic majuscule style. The design is entirely devoid of legend or additional ornament, consistent with the anonymous small-denomination coinage of the Bishopric of Augsburg during this period. The irregular flan edges are typical of hammered silver pfennigs of this issue. |
