Theodoric I Schenk of Erbach served as Archbishop of Mainz from 1434 to 1459, a tenure marked by persistent conflict with the city of Mainz itself over municipal autonomy — tensions that would culminate, a decade after this issue, in the city's formal submission to archiepiscopal authority in 1462. The Miltenberg attribution places production at the archbishopric's mint on the Main river, a secondary facility used when political conditions in Mainz proper made minting there difficult.
Walther 147 is a reasonably well-documented variety within this short emission window.
