Bayrische Schuhfabriken A.-G. was a Bavarian shoe manufacturer that issued emergency currency — Notgeld — during the acute coin shortages of the early Weimar period, when small-denomination state coinage had effectively vanished from circulation. Corporate and municipal issuers stepped in to fill the gap, producing iron, zinc, and pressed-fiber pieces redeemable at their own premises. This piece is tied specifically to the Schweinfurt factory operations, a city better known today for its ball-bearing industry, which made it a primary Allied bombing target in 1943.
