| Obverse description | Central field bearing the quartered arms of Hanau-Münzenberg, featuring the characteristic barry field of Hanau in the upper half and a chevron or similar charge in the lower half, surmounted by a comital crown. The shield is rendered in a simple, bold style typical of late 17th-century hammered pfennig coinage. The initials H M S M appear in the field flanking the shield, identifying the issuing authority. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hand-hammered production of the period. |
