Obverse description The Pomeranian griffin rampant facing left occupies the central field, rendered in low relief with spread wings, open beak, and extended claws in the heraldic tradition of the duchy. The figure is boldly struck on an irregularly shaped copper flan typical of hammered pfennig coinage of the early seventeenth century. No legend or border is present on this face.

Reverse description The reverse bears a four-line Latin inscription in raised capital letters filling the entire field, reading PHIL. / IVLIVS. / H.Z.P. / 1609, separated by pellet stops. The legend identifies the issuing ruler as Philip Julius, Duke of Pomerania-Wolgast, with the abbreviation H.Z.P. standing for Herzog zu Pommern (Duke of Pomerania). The date 1609 appears on the lowest line. No border or additional ornamentation is present, consistent with the plain struck style of this minor copper denomination.
