正面描述 Irregularly shaped hammered silver flan displaying a stylized figure, likely a seated or enthroned ruler, rendered in low relief in the characteristic bracteate-influenced style of 13th-century Austrian pfennigs. The design is heavily worn and struck off-center, with broad flat fields surrounding the central motif. Surface patination ranges from silver-gray to areas of verdigris, consistent with extended burial or circulation. The flan edges are irregular, typical of hand-cut planchets of the period.

附加信息

Ottokar II seized Austria in 1251 following the extinction of the Babenberg line, ruling the duchy until Rudolf of Habsburg defeated and killed him at the Battle on the Marchfeld in 1278 — one of the most consequential dynastic reversals in medieval Central European history. These Vienna pfennigs were struck across that entire occupation, and attributing a specific piece to an early or late phase of his rule remains difficult without die study referencing the Koch and Luschin sequences.
