Otto III vom Berge held the see of Minden from 1384 until his death in 1398, a tenure marked by persistent conflict with the city's burghers over episcopal authority and revenues. Small silver pfennigs of this type were struck not as prestige coinage but as working money for local exchange in the Weser region, where Minden's bishops had long competed with Hanseatic commercial interests for economic influence.
Stange 43 is among the more frequently documented types from this episcopate, though survivors in collectible condition are genuinely scarce.
