The Nürnberg Milchzentrale was the municipal dairy distribution authority established to manage milk supply in Nuremberg during the First World War, when food rationing made controlled distribution of basic staples a civic necessity. Iron replaced brass and copper in notgeld and trade tokens across Germany from around 1916 onward as non-ferrous metals were requisitioned for munitions. This piece functioned as a redemption token within the dairy's distribution system — not circulating currency, but a rationing instrument tied to a specific quantity of milk.
