| 背面描述 | Central field displays the large numeral '1' set within an open wreath of laurel branches tied at the base, all contained within a circular dotted inner border. The circular legend 'KLEINGELDERSATZMARKE' (small change substitute token) runs around the upper periphery in raised Latin capital letters. Three six-pointed stars are arranged symmetrically at the lower portion of the field, and a continuous ring of raised dots frames the entire design along the outer rim. |

Marienstein's 1918 Pfennig is a piece of German wartime Notgeld — emergency coinage struck by municipalities, businesses, and institutions when Imperial Germany's metal supply collapsed under the demands of the war economy. By 1918 copper and nickel had long been commandeered, forcing even small communes to issue their own subsidiary coinage in zinc, iron, and pressed paper. Marienstein was a village of no particular monetary consequence, which makes its independent issue a bureaucratic curiosity as much as a numismatic one.
