| Obverse description | At center, the crowned oval arms of Hesse-Darmstadt displaying the rampant Hessian lion facing left within a beaded oval cartouche, surmounted by an elaborate princely crown. Flanking the crowned shield are oak branches on either side, with the initials H and D placed at left and right respectively in the field, serving as the regional monogram for Hessen-Darmstadt. The overall composition is set within a plain, raised rim with a dotted inner border. |
