Louis I ruled the County of Württemberg-Urach following the partition of Württemberg in 1442, when the county was divided between the Urach and Stuttgart lines — a split that would persist until reunification under Eberhard im Bart in 1482. Coinage from the Urach line during this period is notably scarce, produced in small volumes for a territorially modest court competing for economic influence in southwestern Germany.
