This inner design is enclosed by a plain raised ring, beyond which a further annular band of pellets or bosses extends toward the irregular toothed or crenellated rim. The overall composition is characteristic of Bavarian bracteate-style pfennig coinage of the early 13th century, executed in the bold, simplified artistic idiom typical of hammered medieval silver. |
