Jäger, Rothe & Siemens-Werke was a Leipzig-based electrical engineering firm whose wartime production demands during World War I created chronic small-change shortages severe enough that the company issued its own emergency coinage — Kriegsgeld — for use among its workforce. Zinc was the material of necessity; copper and nickel had been requisitioned for the war effort by 1916, leaving municipal and corporate issuers alike to press whatever base metal remained available.
