Krupp's Konsum-Anstalt was the company-run cooperative store network that supplied workers at the Essen steelworks with food, household goods, and basic necessities — payment tokens and small-denomination paper scrip like this one circulated internally as change substitutes when wartime metal shortages made copper coinage nearly impossible to source. Germany's Kleingeldersatz problem after 1914 was severe enough that hundreds of private firms, municipalities, and institutions issued their own notgeld, but Krupp's operation was among the largest and most systematically organized industrial issuers.
The Tieste reference places this within a well-documented series, which kept the scrip from becoming a collecting rarity purely on scarcity grounds.
