| 裏面の説明 | Toothed outer rim surrounding an open wreath of oak branches, their sprays rising from a tied base at the bottom and curving symmetrically to either side of the field. The large numeral 1 is positioned above the central hole, while the denomination legend PFENNIG appears on a plain raised band across the lower portion of the field, its ends tucked within the oak wreath. The composition is purely typographical and heraldic in character, with no effigy or additional device. |

Iserlohn's 1918 iron Pfennig is Notgeld — emergency coinage issued by municipalities across Germany as the imperial government's war economy drained copper and zinc from civilian use. Iserlohn, an industrial town in Westphalia historically tied to wire-drawing and metalworking, was among hundreds of cities forced to produce their own substitute coinage simply to keep small transactions functioning. The iron used here was itself a wartime compromise, prone to rust, which accounts for the high attrition rate among surviving examples.
