Gesellschaft Linde — today's Linde plc — operated its original industrial gas and refrigeration works at Höllriegelskreuth, south of Munich, from the late nineteenth century. Like many large German industrial concerns in the early twentieth century, the company issued private notgeld and token coinage for use in its factory canteen or commissary, allowing wage payments to be partially redeemed on-site. The Höllriegelskreuth pfennig tokens are documented in both Menzel and Hasselmann, suggesting reasonable scholarly attention, though surviving examples in collectible condition are scarce given their purely functional origin.
