Senkingwerk A.G. was a major metalware manufacturer in Hildesheim — producer of enamelware, household goods, and industrial equipment — that issued notgeld tokens during the acute small-change shortages that followed World War I. Municipal and corporate emergency coinage proliferated across Germany between roughly 1916 and 1923, as wartime metal requisitions gutted the official coinage supply. Iron was the default fallback, cheap and abundant once brass and copper were commandeered for shell casings.
Hildesheim's industrial firms issued several such pieces independently of the city's own notgeld series.
