Additional information

Henry the Elder ruled Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from 1491 until his death in 1514, a period during which the small silver pfennig denominations of Lower Saxony were minted under highly localized conditions — individual cities and territorial lords each exercising their own striking rights, making consistent attribution across the series genuinely difficult. The Welfen principalities of this era were notorious for overlapping monetary jurisdictions, and Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel was no exception.
