Reverse description A wolf passant to the left, depicted within a lozenge (rhombus) whose sides curve slightly inward, forming a cusped frame. The heraldic wolf references the arms associated with the Landgraviate and its territorial symbolism. A fragmentary Latin legend appears in the angles of the lozenge. The overall design is characteristic of hammered bracteate-style pfennigs of the Hessian region from the late 13th to early 14th century.
