Obverse description Central field occupied by a cross pattée interlaced with a crosier, the combined emblems of archiepiscopal authority, rendered in low relief characteristic of hammered billon coinage. The devices are set within a circular legend reading RIGENSIS, denoting the city of Riga. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with typical die-struck weakness visible at the periphery. The overall design reflects the Gothic ecclesiastical idiom common to Livonian pfennigs of the first half of the fifteenth century.
