| Obverse description | A central cross divides the field into four quadrants, each containing one digit of the date 1-5-6-1 arranged around the cross arms. Superimposed at the center of the cross is the heraldic shield of Gotthard Kettler, the last Master of the Livonian Order, depicted in a simple gothic style characteristic of small hammered billon coinage. The numerals are rendered in a bold, slightly irregular fashion consistent with hand-engraved dies of the mid-sixteenth century. |
