Palatinate-Veldenz was one of the more obscure Rhenish territories, a small duchy whose ruling line had contested inheritance claims stretching back to the 13th century. George John I, who ruled from 1543 to 1592, administered a territory so financially marginal that even minor silver pfennig issues from his mint are poorly documented. MB#3 is the primary reference, and surviving examples are scarce enough that die studies remain incomplete.
