Aanvullende informatie

Saxe-Altenburg was among the smallest of the Thuringian duchies, and by 1852 its independent coinage was already an anachronism — the German Customs Union had been harmonizing weights and measures for decades, and full monetary unification under Prussia was less than twenty years away. This pfennig was struck under Georg, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg, whose reign ended with his death in 1853, making the window for this type exceptionally narrow.
