Reverse description Three-line denomination inscription arranged in the center of a plain field: the numeral '1' on the uppermost line, 'PFENNIG' on the second line, and the date '1838' on the third line, all in bold serif lettering. The reverse is unadorned save for a dentillated border encircling the edge. The stark, unembellished layout is characteristic of minor coinage of the German states in the mid-nineteenth century.
