Obverse description Within a beaded border, the abbreviated territorial legend COB appears in the upper field, with the date 45 (last two digits of 1645) rendered below, separated by a small ornamental star. The inscription references the Coburg branch of the Saxe-Altenburg dynasty. The flat, unadorned field and bold lettering are characteristic of mid-seventeenth century German hammered minor coinage.
