Obverse description Divided shield bearing the arms of the Palatinate: to the left, the Palatine lion rampant; to the right, the lozengy field of Bavaria in checkerboard pattern. The date 1534 appears above the shield in Gothic numerals, and the mintmaster's initial 'F' is placed below the shield within the field. The coin exhibits a beaded border typical of hammered coinage of the early sixteenth century.
