Additional information

Franz Anton von Harrach governed Salzburg as Prince-Archbishop from 1709 until his death in 1727, a tenure marked more by baroque patronage than monetary innovation. These billon pfennigs were struck at the Salzburg mint under conditions typical of small-denomination ecclesiastical coinage — low silver content, high attrition in circulation, and almost no surviving mint records to establish annual production figures. The Harrach pfennig series is notoriously difficult to attribute by year for exactly this reason.
