Fokker-Flugzeugwerke issued this 1 Pfennig notgeld at its Schwerin factory during a period when the Reichsbank's inability to supply adequate small coinage had become a genuine industrial problem. Workers needed change for canteen purchases and minor transactions; without it, payroll logistics broke down. Factory-issued scrip was the practical solution, redeemable only within the company's own premises and theoretically worthless outside them.
Fokker's Schwerin plant was producing combat aircraft for the German military throughout this period — the same facility responsible for the Fokker Dr.I triplane and its predecessors. The mundane economics of feeding and paying a wartime workforce produced this note.
