Obverse description Central field occupied by a quartered heraldic shield divided by a plain cross, displaying in the first and fourth quarters three passant lions arranged vertically, emblematic of the arms of Carinthia, and in the second and third quarters a further heraldic charge. The date numerals '603' (last three digits of the year 1603) appear prominently above the shield in the upper field. The flan is irregular and slightly misshapen, characteristic of hammered coinage of the period. No surrounding legend is present; the design is contained within the boundaries of the struck surface.
