Murbach, one of the oldest Benedictine foundations in Alsace, held the right to strike coin as an imperial abbey — a privilege that survived repeated challenges from neighboring powers well into the seventeenth century. Felix Egon von Fürstenberg served as abbot-commendatory from 1663, never taking monastic vows himself, a common arrangement that placed these houses under aristocratic control while preserving their imperial immediacy. The paired attribution to Lüders reflects the formal union of the two abbeys, though Lüders had long been subordinate in practice.
At 0.32 g, these were struck on thin, irregularly cut planchets — centering is almost never complete.
