Obverse description Within a trilobe (trefoil) frame, the Austrian shield (barry of five pieces, pale in fess) is displayed centrally, flanked by the three letters E, R, and N distributed in the lobes, serving as an abbreviated inscription referencing the issuing authority. Small trefoil or clover ornaments fill the spaces between the lobes in the field. The design is characteristic of the small hammered bracteate-style pfennig coinage of the Inner Austrian duchies in the early fifteenth century.
