Dyrotz was a First World War prisoner-of-war camp in the Brandenburg district west of Berlin. Camp-issued Lagergeld of this type was introduced under German military regulations requiring PoW labor to be compensated in scrip redeemable only within the camp economy — preventing real currency from accumulating in prisoner hands and, theoretically, funding escape attempts.
The embossed seal and control stamp combination was the standard anti-counterfeiting measure for Brandenburg-area camps, applied locally after sheets returned from Otto Lange's Berlin press.
