1 Pfennig cut edge

Passau issued its own emergency small-change notes — Kleingeldscheine — in 1918 as coin metal was diverted to the war effort and pfennig denominations effectively vanished from circulation. This particular variant, the cut-edge type, reflects the ad hoc nature of local wartime production: sheets were trimmed by hand or guillotine rather than perforated, and minor dimensional inconsistencies between surviving examples are common as a result.

At 20 × 20 mm, this is among the smallest Notgeld produced anywhere in Bavaria.
