| Beschrijving voorzijde | Frontal bust of a bishop enclosed within a beaded or plain inner ring, the figure wearing a miter and depicted in a stylized, flat relief characteristic of late medieval hammered coinage. The effigy is flanked on either side by a crozier (pastoral staff) and a lily or pine cone finial. Four short radial strokes appear at the cardinal points of the inner ring, a decorative convention common to Augsburg pfennigs of this period. No legend is present; the design fills the irregular flan. |

Burkhard II of Ellerbach held the Augsburg see for over five decades, an unusually long episcopate during which the bishopric navigated persistent friction with the city's increasingly assertive merchant guilds. Small silver pfennigs of this type circulated locally in Swabia alongside the region's dense patchwork of competing ecclesiastical and civic issues — a monetary environment so fragmented that individual markets sometimes refused coins struck just a few miles away.
