Bernhard von Spanheim ruled Carinthia for over five decades, an unusually long tenure that makes the precise dating of individual bracteate pfennigs from his reign genuinely difficult — the coinage was periodically renewed, and surviving examples tend to cluster into die groups rather than clear chronological sequences. The CNA Cb 16 classification reflects decades of scholarly effort to organize what remains a murky series.
